On June 7th, Pete Pedersen, Managing Principal of Brightfields Development, spoke at the 5th annual South Florida Regional Brownfield Symposium.
The symposium, hosted by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), featured diverse discussions on brownfield management and potential reuse solutions.
Mr. Pedersen presented on the benefits of transforming a brownfield into a brightfield with solar photovoltaics (PV). Based on Brightfields Developments’ prolific experience developing solar PV on brownfields and landfills, Mr. Pedersen shared how Florida property owners can revitalize dormant assets and create new value by deploying renewable energy. While Florida is only beginning to explore solar opportunities, the state is in excellent position to learn from the successes and failures of other mature markets, like California and Massachusetts.
