Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at Elizabeth Mine Superfund Site

EMS ribbon cutting 092217 1

On Friday, September 22, 2017, Brightfields Development LLC was joined by development partners for a ribbon cutting of the Elizabeth Mine site in Vermont.

The Elizabeth Mine site is an abandoned copper mine that operated through the 19th and into the 20th century. It was later designated as an EPA Superfund site. Brightfields worked closely with GMP to maximize the array’s value to the grid. Elizabeth Mine’s production of 5 MW of clean energy will in turn off set 6,000 tons of CO2 annually, equal to emissions from the combustion of 14,000 barrels of oil. The amount of clean energy will equal the carbon sequestration from almost 5,000 acres of forest, and will provide electricity sufficient to power 1,200 homes annually.
