On Thursday, May 18, 2017 Brightfields Development LLC, a leader in brownfield remediation and solar energy development, joined its development partners for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the Lexington Landfill Solar Project. The Lexington solar project is a 2.2 MW solar array located on the town’s closed landfill and active compost facility. This innovative solar photovoltaic project is composed of two solar canopies and a ballasted ground mount array, making it one of the first solar canopies cited on a landfill in the nation.

The ribbon cutting ceremony was well attended as it brought together the project development partners, representatives from the Town, local teachers and community members to celebrate solar in Lexington. Attendees gathered under the eastern solar canopy at 8:30 AM to hear a number of speakers including Mike Singer of Brightfields Development, Commissioner Judith Judson of Massachusetts DOER, Mark Sandeen of Sustainable Lexington, Senator Mike Barrett, Representative Jay Kaufman, Selectman Joe Pato and Dan Voss, Chair of the Lexington Solar Task Force discuss the extensive planning and effort that went into making this project a reality. The speeches were followed by a 9:00 AM ribbon cutting ceremony and a guided tour of the solar facility.

“The entire ceremony was a great experience”, stated Mike Singer of Brightfields Development. “We are thrilled that so many community members were in attendance to celebrate this project. Without the constant support of the Lexington community, this solar project never would have been built.”
