Scituate Landfill Solar Project Expected Completion by Year-end

The Boston Globe

The 2.4 MW solar array system is still on track to be operating in December despite an extension of the penalty date.

Project Developer, Brightfields Development, LLC was awarded the contract to oversee the installation of the solar panels on the town of Scituate's capped landfill. The company requested to move the penalty date from February 22, 2013 to June 15, 2013 as a precautionary measure. "They expect to be done by Christmas, but they don't want weather delays or delivery delays [impacting that]," said Al Bangert, Director of Department of Public Works in response to the extension. The selectmen understood the concerns and granted the extension to Brightfields. The system is expected to supply 30% of the town's electricity, saving the town up to $250,000 annually.
