Lexington

In July 2015, the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Lexington approved Brightfields Development to codevelop a 2.0 MW solar project at the Town’s compost facility. The project consists of a 1.25 MW ground mount system and two solar canopy structures.

The site located on Hartwell Avenue is currently home to the Town’s local and regional composting operations. The use of solar canopies will allow for current site operations to be maintained while providing the Town with clean, renewable energy. Construction of the project began in early 2016.

Lexington's production of clean electricity will:

  • Offset 2,051 tons of CO2 annually
  • Conserve 1,349,322 gallons of water annually
  • Provide the environmental benefits of planting 1,175,000 trees in its lifetime
