Brightfields Development, LLC was selected by the Town of Needham, Massachusetts, through a competitive bid process to develop a solar photovoltaic (PV) project under a power purchase agreement with the Town. The project consists of an approximately 3.7 megawatt (MW) solar PV array that will be installed on the closed Town of Needham Sanitary landfill located off of Central Avenue.
The project is situated on top of the closed landfill and covers approximately 13 acres. Site development included the installation of approximately 12,000 PV modules mounted on the Solstice racking system. SolarCity Corporation will be the long term owner and operator of the project. Construction is complete and the array is now up and running.
Needham Solar I's production of clean electricity will:
- Offsets 3,900 tons of CO2 annually
- Conserves 2,557,64 gallons of water annually
- Will provide the environmental benefits of planting 2,250,000 trees in its lifetime
